2022 in retrospect
In a recent blog post, the folks at Security Intelligence look back at the most prevalent security challenges in 2022. For regular readers of Cyber Security Magazine, the findings will hardly be surprising: The past year was full of news about ransomware, email compromise, supply chain attacks, and attacks on Internet of Things devices.
Start using ad blockers - FBI
Just how prevalent ransomware has become is underlined by the FBI recommending the use of ads blockers just a few days ago. The particular threat they are concerned about are malicious ads distributing ransomware and stealing financial information. Yet another good reason to start using ad blockers for anyone not doing so, yet.
BEC can affect anyone
One of the reasons why Business Email Compromise —or BEC, for short— is so widespread, is that virtually every business relies on email. Thus, it is not just technology companies that need to be vary of it. The Record report that these attacks are increasingly affecting the food and agricultural sector, in some instances leading to theft of food and supplies instead of data.
How secure are your suppliers
Similarly, supply chain incidents, too, have affected almost everyone in 2022. A recent survey of 2,100 C-Level executives in large organizations found that 98% suffered some kind of supply chain breach in the past year. Thus, more businesses recognize that their suppliers’ security posture directly affects themselves, and that a more proactive approach is warranted.
