CyberSecurity Magazine Newsletter: December 2021

Dear Reader,

As 2021 draws to a close, we look back at an exciting year in security and specifically, here at Cybersecurity Magazine. Over the past 12 months, we have published over 100 articles, opinion pieces, and podcasts to keep you informed about recent trends and developments in the security domain. In our last newsletter of this year, we summarize our most popular content in 2021.

Practical Applications of Blockchain Technology

The crown for the most accessed post on our website in 2021 takes a recent article from the Journal of Mobile Multimedia. Under the title "Blockchain-based Trusty Buyer Coalition Scheme Using A Group Signature", the authors describe a system for forming a buyer coalition with the help of a decentralized public ledger.

Security for Small Business

Cybersecurity concerns businesses of all sizes, not just Fortune 500 companies. Therefore, it is great to see our piece on "10 Small Business Cyber Security Statistics That You Should Know – And How To Improve Them" got lots of attention in the past year. Besides highlighting interesting (and concerning) security statistics, this piece also provides actionable advice on how to improve your security posture.

Learning from Prominent Security Incidents

As was to be expected, 2021 had its fair number of data breaches. "The SocialArks Data Breach Uncovered the Open Source Paradox" looks at an incident affecting Chinese social media management company SocialArks earlier this year. This example also concerns the crucially important topic of securing open-source components.

The Origins of DDoS Attacks

Denial of Service Attacks continue to be a major point of concern – not just for IT companies, but operators of cyber-physical systems as well. In "The History and Future of DDoS Attacks" you can learn more about the humble beginnings of this particular type of attack and how it grew to be the dangerous weapon it is today.

Listen to Cybersecurity Magazine

Lastly, it is also worth mentioning that in 2021, Cybersecurity Magazine revamped its regular podcast format. Once a month, we talk with security specialists from various different backgrounds about their field of expertise. If you are not subscribed yet, you will be able to find us on YouTube, Spotify, and your podcast platform of choice. The most popular episode so far is the one with Sandeep Shukla on Open-Source Software for Cybersecurity.

We wish you the very best for the new year and look forward to continue sharing the latest cybersecurity information with you in 2022!
