Bio-Inspired Cyber-Security: A case study in Designing Anomaly Detection

Taking clues from nature in designing cybersecurity solutions has provided some elegant solutions to challenging problems. However, current approaches focus on focus on searching through a vast diversity of and subsequently replicating existing natural algorithms. 

This article introduces an approach of functional abstraction, focusing on effective and efficient features of an algorithm. Using a Distributed Denial of Services detection as an example, the authors demonstrate how this approach results in purposeful, tailored solutions.
