Bio-Inspired Cyber-Security: A case study in Designing Anomaly Detection

Taking clues from nature in designing cybersecurity solutions has provided some elegant solutions to challenging problems. However, current approaches focus on searching through a vast diversity of and subsequently replicating existing natural algorithms.

This article introduces an approach of functional abstraction, focusing on effective and efficient features of an algorithm. Using a Distributed Denial of Services detection as an example, the authors demonstrate how this approach results in purposeful, tailored solutions.
